Jennifer was a fixture in the homeless community of Joplin, MO. She had a beautiful singing voice and was often found sitting outside various businesses or agencies singing or reciting poetry. Jennifer last received services at the Watered Gardens Homeless Shelter on October 4, 2022. She posted a video of herself singing on Facebook on 10/10/2022. On October 17th, Joplin experienced a cold snap and the temperature at night unexpectedly dropped into the 20's. An acquaintance of Jennifer's invited her to sleep in his pickup truck which had a camper shell parked on the Watered Garden's parking lot (531 S. Kentucky Ave Joplin, MO). Jennifer slept in the truck for two consecutive nights and on the morning after the 2nd night, a WG staff member arrived to work and was alarmed that all of Jennifer's belongings and blankets were left unattended in a pavilion on the Watered Gardens property. Jennifer was fiercely possessive of her belongings (purse, bags and blankets) and typically wore them on her person. It was unusual that her belongings were stacked outside unattended. The employee asked the acquaintance where Jennifer was, and he stated that he woke up early in the morning inside his truck and she was gone and had left all her of her belongings behind. He said he immediately stacked her belongings outside in the pavilion. The acquaintance typically stored other people's belongings for weeks at a time under his camper shell, so it was unusual that he would place her belongings outside among the other homeless where they would be stolen. He gave several different versions over the following weeks about where Jennifer was. He stated that she had moved to Kansas City with a boyfriend. He stated another time that she moved to Coffeyville, KS to be with family. The employee contacted all the shelters and medical agencies that Jennifer was known to frequent, as well as searching homeless camps and places Jennifer was known to frequent. Jennifer always called her mother on her birthday, and her mother hasn't heard from Jennifer since her disappearance.
