Description
12/04/1995, the Plumas County Sheriff’s Office was made aware of an abandoned campsite near Brady’s Camp which is a dispersed camping area located approximately 10 miles east of Quincy, California which is within the Plumas National Forest. Responding Deputies met with the reporting party, a friend of James Edward Erickson of Carson City Nevada, who was missing from the campsite. At the campsite, law enforcement found a Dodge pickup NV License# 622 FWE, as well as other camping gear such as a fully assembled tent, sleeping bags and other camping equipment. Utilizing the vehicle information, Law Enforcement was able to get in touch with the family of Erickson who reported they had not seen or spoken with Erickson since August of 1995. Plumas National Forest personnel also on scene reported they had noticed the camp while on patrol a week prior and it did not appear anything had been disturbed or moved since that time. The deputy also noted, he was in the area approximately a month prior and noticed the camp. The deputy reported the camp appeared to be undisturbed from his last visit. The reporting party at scene told law enforcement, Erickson liked to rock climb, do some gold mining, and it was not uncommon for him to go off into the woods for extended periods of time. The friend at scene advised, the only personal items they could tell were missing from the camp was Erickson’s metal detector, his handgun, and camera. All of Erickson’s inclement weather gear was still at the camp. The friend reported last seeing Erickson driving on La Porte Road near Quincy California the first part of October 1995. The friend advised, he did not stop and contact Erickson at that time. An extensive search of the rugged mountainous terrain surrounding the abandoned camp was done on multiple occasions, to no avail. To this date, Erickson has not been located nor has family or friends had any further contact with him.
