Byron was traveling to a class reunion in Palestine, TX. He was last seen on US Hwy 79 walking away from his rental car in Franklin, TX. It is possible that Byron became disoriented. His rental vehicle, described as a gray Lincoln Town Car was later located on June 25, 2006 on US Hwy 79.
