Description

On 1/26/2023, the Yuma County Sheriff's Office contacted the Medical Examiner's Office in reference to skeletal remains located in the desert area south of Wellton, Arizona, west of the Tinajas Altas mountains. The remains were initially located by Fish and Wildlife personnel conducted a survey in the area where the remains were located. The remains consisted of a skull, mandible with teeth, multiple small bones, and multiple long bones. The remains were recovered and transported to the Yuma County Medical Examiner's Office where samples of the mandible and teeth were taken pending possible DNA analysis. The remains were located with a tattered and sun-faded sweatshirt jacket and a faded camouflaged backpack.
